About Schizophrenia Awareness Association
SAA in brief

Schizophrenia Awareness Associaton (SAA) is registered as Public Charitable Trust vide ref.F/14439 dt. 18.2.98. Though in the beginning the major focus area of SAA was people suffering from schizophrenia, it now deals with other mental illnesses as well.

Three major areas of focus of SAA are:
1. Creating public awareness about mental disorders using various media,
2. Empowering afflicted families through training, SHSG, talks of experts and formal training
3. Networking with other similar NGOs at the national and international levels.

Managing Committee of SAA consists of shubharthis(patients), shubhankars (caregivers) and SAAthis(volunteers).SAA has approx. 50 shubharthis, 200 shubhankars and 20 SAAthis.

Schizophrenia Awareness Association started the SeIf Help Support Group named "Ekalavya" and and helped forming SHSGs, besides Pune, at Abmednagar, Aurangabad, Nashik and Nagpur in Maharashtra state, India. Our SHSGs are facilitated by non-professional, trained and experienced volunteers and believes in active liaison with the professionals.

By it’s role in mental health care, SAA has attracted:

  • Growing number of shubharthis, shubhankars & SAAthis,
  • Medical and media fraternity,
  • Mental health care oganizations in India and abroad and
  • Donors throughout India and abroad.
